If you're in your teens, you are just at the right time to start taking care of your skin properly. This will help avoid skin care problems caused by improper habits. It doesn't take a lot of time, and it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Teen skin care differs from your mom's skin care, so don't rely on her facial cleansers which are most likely not meant for your skin type.

Protect your skin.

Use sun screen. We all know that sun screen protects your skin from the sun, and this obviously reduces your chance of skin cancer. Did you also know that this reduces your chance of signs of early aging? 90% of premature aging is caused by the sun. Sure, it may not be something that you are thinking of when you’re in your teens, but you'll be glad you did in 15 years. Apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF 15 (I recommend higher) when you're out in the sun or driving around with your friends and don't forget to reapply.

Ditch the bar soap you have in your shower.

Find a facial cleanser that's best for your skin type. Do you have oily skin? Many teens find that oily skin is their main concern, so look for a gel based cleanser if this is your problem. There are many affordable ones out there which include Salicylic Acid which helps clear acne. Make sure you wash your face in the morning and at night. You never want to sleep in your makeup.

Moisturize your face.

The idea that those with oily skin don't need a moisturizer is just plain false. What you do need is a light oil-free moisturizer to put on after you cleanse. Always moisturize after you wash and tone your face.

Use a weekly mask and a weekly Exfoliater.

A mask deep cleanses, while an Exfoliater removes the dry, dead skin cells. When choosing a mask, look for a clay mask like Peter Thomas Roth Sulfur Cooling Mask which will open pores and clean deep down. A weekly to Exfoliater will encourage new skin to grow healthier. Try facelogic Daily Advanced Peel or Eminence Pear and Poppy seed Microderm Polisher. Make sure you are gentle; if you over scrub, your skin may break out even further and dry out.

Summer is a great time to simplify beauty routines. Many people become more active in the summer months and do not have time to adhere to a makeup routine that takes more than five minutes. Makeup for summer 2009 is designed for the person who wants to look fresh and complete in just a few minutes.

When it comes to the face for summer tinted moisturizers are top of the list. Tinted moisturizers are ideal for almost any skin type. They hydrate dry, mature skin while adding enough coverage for the average wearer. If skin is normal to combination, a tinted moisturizer will provide coverage and hydration without melting. While oilier skin types need moisturizer, tinted moisturizer might not provide enough control or coverage for a full day out and about. Instead, oily skin types should stick with a light power foundation.

The summer 2009 makeup trend for blush is colorful, but sheer. Summer is about looking fresh and active. Choose colors like, soft pinks and bright roses. Rather than focusing on the apple of the cheeks, the makeup looks from the spring and summer 2009 runway had the blush placed at the temple, sweeping upward into the hairline. This gives the face instantly a more youthful appearance. Bronzers are not nearly as popular as they have been in recent years, and are only being used for subtle contouring, if at all.

The most fun aspect of summer makeup is eye makeup. Gone are the boring browns and dreary neutrals. This season, eye makeup is bold and bright. Colors like bold teals, seductive violets, and sweet and chic greens are popping up all over.

Eyebrows are not to be ignored this summer. The latest trend in eyebrow shaping is to let them grow to a natural shape that is only subtly refined. Brows are filled in slightly, but kept to a minimum so as not to overpower a colorful shot of eye makeup.

Lip color is not much different from the makeup trends seen for spring. Lips for summer should look hydrated and subtle with shine. Lip gloss is back, but not in the over-the-top way that is common for fall and winter. Rather, gloss should be applied lightly, in combination with a heavy lip balm with sunscreen.

The overall makeup trends for summer 2009 point to a more carefree, lighthearted approach to beauty. Colors are bright and fresh, textures are sheer and healthy, and the spirit is playful. A summer 2009 makeup routine should take less than ten minutes, even for the most high-maintenance woman.

Does skincare vary with skin color ?

Skin comes in many different colors depending on your cultural origin, and irrespective of the skin color, the skin may also range from being oily to dry. So how should different skin types/colors be cared for - is there a difference?

The overall structures and functions of skin are all similar regardless of color and are therefore cared for in similar ways. However knowing your skin’s particular strengths and weaknesses, you can tailor your skin care approach to your particular skin-characteristics.

Tips for Asian skin

While other women consider wrinkles to be the first signs of aging, Asian skin signals the passing years with the onset of dark spots. Excessive freckling, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone are major concerns for Asian skin. Asian skin is also highly prone to blemishes and acne and tends to have larger pores, which can impart the appearance of uneven tone and texture. Regular exfoliation will minimize pore appearance and help this skin look smooth and healthy.
Dermatological procedures and common skin care additives like preservatives and fragrances can be highly irritating to Asian skin. Stick to products that are soothing and gentle, free of alcohol and oil-free hydrators.
Lastly apply a broad-spectrum sun protection with at least SPF 15 every day, rain or shine, and stay out of the sun during peak hours. That way, you will protect your skin from the risk of skin cancer, but you will also help prevent any dark-spot discoloration and allow any discolorations to clear over time.

Tips for African American skin

With African American skin it is well known that the melanin provides protection from the ravages of aging due to ultraviolet light. This natural protection from the sun means less damage to the skin and fewer signs of aging. However when aging changes do occur, most prominent are changes in the texture of the skin, the appearance of benign growths, pigmentation and a loss of the volume of the skin.
This skin type often tends to be oily, prone to acne and rough in texture. Acne can leave temporary dark spots called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Black skin is especially susceptible to these spots, which can take months to disappear.
To help ward off these scars, treat pimples gently. Don't pick, squeeze, or scrub and stay away from skin lighteners and bleaching creams containing steroids.

So there it is…no matter who you are, what skin color or skin type you possess…look after your skin using quality skin care products and it will look after you!
